They like 2-methylheptane over n-octane because the 2-methylheptane is more stable under pressure while still having all the potential energy of a normal octane chain correct? One of my roomies is going into aviation and told me that the 100+ octane that jets use is seldom octane at all but it is stable beyond what octane would normally be even in the case of a pure 2-methylheptane. I know diesel engines don't have spark plugs but just squeeze the fuel mix in the piston chamber until combustion .... if I am not mistake ramjet, and turbine engines use very high pressure to run as well.

In short, what does the octane rating do in the engine (am I correct, is it stability as well as purity) and what happens with Octane 101 and above?Kylehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06140857049888393844noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1650079950066517415.post-33845485570094813852008-11-03T18:44:00.000-08:002008-11-03T18:44:00.000-08:00I think older cars are more sensitive to lower-per...I think older cars are more sensitive to lower-performing gasolines. Maybe we old girls get sensitive in our old age! I remember the days when you could still find leaded gasoline in Wyoming.
